From the Principal's Desk

MKASS was founded in 2004 to be a Leadership Resource Centre for Africa and beyond. It is a multicultural boarding and day school with a student population working towards the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) and the Cambridge International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE).

Our beautiful campus is situated in the foothills of Mt. Kenya in a serene and conducive learning environment. We set very high expectations for our students who are educated to be innovative, self-confident, excellent, and resilient and to serve. We nurture talent in Music, Sports and other extra-curricular activities alongside excellence in academic performance.

MKASS is purposefully small as we value family and wish to offer individualized attention to all learners. Our students stay in rooms with a welcoming ambiance under close supervision of boarding staff. Nursing services are offered on campus for any emergency.

Our experienced faculty guides learners to set targets and track their progress so that they take responsibility of their learning. Formative assessments provide important feedback regarding the next steps to promote learning. Our learners have two summative assessments per term, the Midterm and End term examinations.

We provide modern facilities such as a well-equipped ICT lab, Music Centre, Art room, Library, Science labs and an e-learning centre to expose our learners to diverse learning experiences. Digital learning is emphasized in all disciplines. Our students are expected to carry out projects to develop their research, innovation and communication skills.

Our school has a Swimming pool, a Tennis court, a Basketball court, Soccer, Rugby and Netball fields to develop talent. Our knowledgeable and skilled team provides an extraordinary experience. We have clubs and school programmes which provide opportunities for learners to develop transferable skills such as team work and innovation. These include the President’s Award, Model United Nations (MUN), Environmental, Young Farmers, Photography, First Aid, Microfinance and Debate.

Field excursions to destinations such as the Batian’s view help our learners to bond; develop self-confidence, teamwork and resilience. The students graduate having scaled the heights of Mount Kenya to Lenana peak. This is a life changing experience.

Our community service programme prepares our students to support the neighboring population. Through voluntary initiatives, they nurture their talents and collaborate with neighboring primary schools and communities. The Business Studies class supports women in Chaka market to run small businesses as they apply their skills and knowledge in real life situations. All these are captured in their profiles.

We have a tradition of an exchange programme with Westminster schools, in Atlanta, Georgia and host their delegation every year. This provides our students and teachers an opportunity to establish mutually beneficial relationships. Our recently established partnership with Ardingly College in the UK has provided a new momentum for further improvement.

My twenty six years in school leadership has taught me that every learner has something unique that we can nurture. Our student centered approach focuses on learning progress for each learner. At MKASS we have a noble responsibility of guiding the learners to strive for the peak in pursuit of excellence in all aspects of school life and beyond.

We graduate scholars, artists, athletes and leaders in all fields. Our alumni have excelled in their careers, a clear testimony of the quality of our educational experience.

Visit us at MKASS and experience our revamped programmes. We shall be glad to welcome you for a tour of the school and for a placement assessment of your child.
