Guiding and Counselling are an integral part of our School.
We are very grateful to God for the gift of Grace Chapel donated by a very dear friend of the school Mrs. Cindy Candler. We hold two services each Sunday morning, the first one for the Junior School and second one for the Senior School. We also have special joint services during the year for instance, Candidates Prayer Services, Holy Communion for Protestants, Mass for Catholics. The Chapel services program is organised by the Chapel committee comprising staff from both schools including members of the management team. Students and staff take an active role in leading and presenting various items during worship e.g. songs, testimonies, prayers and even sharing meditations (sermons).
Besides our own members, we invite guest speakers and groups to minister. Each term has a focus or theme(s), for example in the September term we are focusing on the theme “Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and do not rely on your own insight. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths.” (Proverbs 3:5-6). Members of staff work closely with the Chaplain in identifying students or a class/year group to lead worship every Sunday. The Music department facilitates singing with the whole school going through song/hymn practice and some special recitals on Wednesday mornings.
The Monday assembly talks (devotions) inspire both students and staff to strive for the peak as we seek to excel academically, in co-curricular activities.
Every Thursday morning, we have a pastoral programme comprising PPI (Pastoral Programs Instruction) and Group Counselling which our teaching staff help facilitate and both strengthen our core value of Christian Heritage.
We do also have sessions for one on one counselling, prayer fellowship for boarding students on early Friday morning, Sunday School lessons and staff fellowship prayers on Wednesdays.
The school has continued to take great interest in community service as we live out the words of our School song-‘help others who are weak’. We appreciate our, Director Mrs. Mwangi, for her leadership, vision and support in all the chaplaincy department programs.
Mount Kenya Academy is a great place to be-to learn, share, grow.
May God bless our school.
